The Jewish Museum

Artists’ Voices: Theresienstadt and Creative Resistance

Fred Terna (1923-2022) was an artist and survivor of three Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust. In this intimate film we created for the Jewish Museum in the final year of his life, Fred discusses the role that artmaking played in his survival during and after his internment in Theresienstadt. His son, photographer Daniel Terna, responds to his father’s legacy by making works that document and celebrate his father’s life.
