2019-2022 Restoration Video Series

From midway through the project in 2019 until its completion in 2022, we documented the Morgan Library’s restoration of the exterior, roof, and garden of its original McKim building. The resulting film tells the story of complex project to restore and maintenance Mr. Morgan’s original library building but woven within is an institutional narrative about The Morgan’s legacy and commitment both to preservation and serving the public.

The series featured 12 mini-films that provided progress updates along the way, culminating in the big reveal of the completed project in the summer of 2022.

With only 1/64” of space between the front of the custom blocks of Tennessee marble, from afar, our façade appears to be a sheer wall of stone. Behind the façade, the blocks of stone have a small trough for mortar to secure the building together. The precise construction techniques and design have held the building in remarkable condition throughout the years.
